ABOUT soundbytes

The Soundbytes series has been developed primarily for teachers and pupils involved in whole class instrumental tuition, aka Wider Opportunities. The series consists of four titles, each containing three pieces, in various arrangements for each instrumental group. It is a multi-media series involving three elements:

• sheet music – four publications each containing 3 pieces with simple piano accompaniments and examples of the instrumental parts for each piece. Each publication focuses on a different aspect of muscianship such as rhythm, harmony, melody or time signatures;
• CDs – part of the sheet music packs, the CDs contain backing tracks for each piece with versions arranged in five different keys for each instrumental family;
• website – has downloadable parts for all instruments, and teachers can create their own scores depending on the combination of instruments they require. Teaching notes and extra general musicianship activities are also available to download to accompany the learning of the pieces.

For each instrument there are three different parts to choose form; an easy part which is intended for pupils who really are absolute beginners, a medium part for pupils with a few more lessons under their belt, and a hard part for pupils who want something a little more challenging.

Also available on this website is an arrangement of each piece for a mixed instrumental ensemble. These arrangements are ideal for school orchestras, with pupils who are a little more experienced in their playing.
