- Discuss the possible reasons why only 31 of the 38 school-aged villagers in the global village attend school. Invite pupils to list reasons why they think it is so important to be able to read and write.
KS2/KS3
- Ask the pupils to write a detailed schedule of their activities for one day, including what they did at school. Next, using the following website, http://web66.coled.umn.edu/schools.html; ask them to look up school websites around the world to find out details of subjects studied and extra-curricular activities on offer in other countries. They can also use books or contact relatives or friends who live abroad to investigate how the daily lives of young people around the world differ from their own.
