Food (Pages 16-17)

KS3

  • Ask each pupil to bring in four or five everyday items; such as clothing, food and other consumer goods, which have manufacturer’s origins marked on them. Put the pupils into small groups and ask them to use the labels to identify the goods’ origins. Give each group a world map so that they can mark up the origin of each item. Ask each group to present their findings to the rest of the class. Discuss why these goods come from all over the world. Can they see patterns between countries and types of goods? Why might this be? You might want to use this as the starting point for further investigation into the consequences of this global trade on people and the environment
