This debut full-length play by talented young writer is an unflinching look at crime and the fight for a fresh start on society's fringes

'When was I ever young?! Eh? Tell me. When have I ever been a kid, a child? Never. I'd stay in school if I didn't get hassled so much ... I would, you know I would ... Listen, lemme tell ya, I was gonna walk ... tonight ... this night ...'

Fourteen-year-old Baz comes back from the care-home to meet his new baby brother and heal family rifts, yet he still can't shake off the past. After spending all his life running away from one place to the next, time is suddenly against him as he searches for a fresh start and a family of his own.

Set on a north London estate, this is a raw, uncompromising and unflinching look at the invisible side of society.

Publication timed to coincide with the world premiere at the Arcola Theatre, London, in September 2005
